The G. Allan Backus House (1912)

Original Historic District Document Info: Built in 1912 for William Schmitz**. This is a medium-pitched center gable, single story Craftsman bungalow with a low-pitched offset gable with ventilator. There are brackets projecting under exposed eaves and stone porch columns. The exterior is stucco and plain shingles. The central concrete walkway curves to the south at the porch entrance where it is lined with embedded red brick.

**Note: The historic District documentation has to be wrong re: William Schmitz. I couldn’t find any directory information between 1910 and 1914 listing him at this address. However, I did find an article and directory information listing G. Allan Backus at this address between 1912 and 1914 and then an article from August 1914 saying that William P Meyer rented the house from Backus. So for this report I’m changing it to the G. Allan Backus House until further information disproves that. (See below).
