Thank you for this information. So which is more accurate, Original Historic District Document of the house built in 1930, or The Ventura County Assessor listing the house built in 1947?

I call the house “Casa de La Nopalera”. My name is Jacqueline “Jackie” Villanueva the owner of the home.

The Assessor’s information is almost never correct and I got them to admit that. They just guessed at the years built most of the time. I don’t know what the people who wrote the Historic District Document used back in 1999, but it’s pretty hit and miss. I’m guessing they just asked the current homeowners what they knew, since that’s really before internet searching became readily available.

The first record I can find on your address is 1933, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there in 1930, so the year is hard to pinpoint right now. It definitely wan’t 1947! There may have been a remodeling or addition that year.

I think it would be safe to call it the William Doyle House, or the William and Mary Doyle House (not sure why it was always the male’s name only!)

Thank you for the information. My former neighbor, John Goetz, said there was a house here and it had burned down about the turn of the century. The lot stayed vacant until the house that is here now was built. He couldn’t tell me what year it was built. He said between the 30’s and 40’s. He did say there were a few home improvements done through out the years. John passed on some years back.

Well that’s interesting! You’d think I could find an article about a fire…I’ll look.
